Encouraging Tourism From Mexico

More than 200,000 Mexican tourists visited Canada last year with approximately 89,000 vacationing in Vancouver. However this year many tourism industry stakeholders have been speaking of big declines in tourism receipts from Mexico due to challenges such as the recession and the Mexican visa requirement.  As a result, the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) has launched several efforts to encourage Mexicans to continue to travel to Canada—especially during the 2010 Olympics. Visa Change For Mexicans

In a surprise move in July 2009, the Canadian Government imposed new visa requirements on Mexican nationals. In order to come to Canada to visit, work or study, Mexicans must apply for and meet the requirements of a Temporary Resident Visa. Despite this change, it is still much faster to hire a Mexican than many other nationalities. (more…)
